American Military Targeted a 'Big Facility' in Venezuela, Trump Asserted Without Offering Specifics.

Former President Trump has claimed that US forces struck a "major facility" in Venezuela in recent days. But, the ex-leader offered no details on the exact purpose or site of the target, and officials have issued no additional clarification from his administration.

Unspecific Remarks Offered During a Radio Interview

"We just eliminated – I'm not sure if you saw – they have a large facility, where the vessels come from. The other night, we destroyed it. So we hit them decisively," Trump allegedly said to Republican donor and supermarket owner John Catsimatidis in a recent interview.

Possible Implications of a Verified Strike

If a US strike were to be confirmed, it would represent the initial attack on Venezuelan soil since the US Department of Defense initiated a increase of US military presence in the region to interdict narco-trafficking operations that the Trump administration alleges operate under the authority of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.

The original purpose of the force deployment has since morphed into a blockade aimed at stopping the country's crude oil shipments.

Online Footage and Official Statements

Trump has for weeks indicated that US forces are prepared to expand the operations by attacking targets inside Venezuela, a strategy that would theoretically require congressional approval.

Video footage shared online on 24 December seemed to depict an blast said to be from an industrial area in Zulia state. Yet, the video or the site in question has not been independently verified.

An administration official allegedly told a media outlet that the president was referring to a drug facility in his comments.

Response and Current Strategic Situation

The Caracas administration has not commented on the alleged strike Trump referenced. Additionally, there have been no independent reports from Venezuela regarding it.

The presence of US military in the area – a posture some have referred to as a maritime "quarantine" – constitutes the most expansive naval operation of his time in office.

Administration officials have refrained from calling the operation as a full blockade, but have stated that about 15,000 troops are deployed across the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf, including a carrier strike group, F-35 aircraft, and law enforcement vessels to uphold existing economic sanctions.
