Around 50 automobiles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they announced in a official communication.
Officers say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other smeared cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement state initial examinations show the fluid was likely human blood.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; officials are currently not aware of any harm in association with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the residents for tips.
A senior official said the attack left him stunned and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a assailant focusing on people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
